Om färg

"Black, in the ‘pigment’ spectrum is—like white in the ‘light’ spectrum—the ideal mixture of all colors."*

Om akademi II

"A dean, acting also through department chairs, sets the tone of a school—whether it is to be experimental or rooted in traditional values—and also its character—egalitarian or autocratic. A great school cannot be all things to all people. Intelligent choices can be made only when the available choices are clear. A dean who lets a school be pushed this way and that by its own internal struggles within the faculty and the students is a failed leader, and the school suffers. A great dean is not afraid to lead in the direction he or she thinks best. The courage to do that is the essence of the job description."*

Om studenter

"It is much easier to find good students than good faculty. It is far easier to find great students than great faculty."*

Om arkitekten II

"His [Cedric Price's] is certainly a fine model of practice to follow. He was not independently wealthy, nor did he live like a poor man. He enjoyed excellent cognac and fine cigars, and never wanted for them. He had a fine marriage. His circle of friends and colleagues included the best and the brightest. And he turned down work he didn’t believe in. He chose carefully, not making more than enough money to go forward with his work and his life. Oh, and he also had a sense of humor, and some perspective on himself, which enabled him to see things more fully the round."*

Om arkitekten

"no one expects developers to be moral or social philosophers, while we do hope that architects—the stewards of constructed human space—exhibit a wider perspective of and concern for the human condition."*

Om scener

[...]“Doctor Atomic” [..] argues against this idea. It demonstrates that opera can be a vital art-form that speaks to contemporary people across their usual social divisions. The Met performance we attended was being transmitted live, by satellite, to movie theaters around the world. It was also simulcast on radio and will appear in its entirety, and for free, on public television stations everywhere. And there is another thing to consider: live performances have to happen somewhere. In movies they happen on sound stages or ‘on location.’ In opera, they happen in theaters, where not only the performers are live, but also their audiences. This is interactivity at its most intimate, and its best. *

Om musik

"Architecture and music are the most abstract of the arts. They are both rooted in precise mathematical relationships played out across space and time. Still, their abstractness can become representational when it starts to symbolize something. What does a Gothic cathedral symbolize? Technological progress? The victory of ideas over matter? Or, the power of religion? The importance of piety? For most people, it will be the latter more than the former, and in a quite literal way: the Gothic cathedral and all the buildings modeled on it, are didactic symbols of devotion to Christianity. So, too, a Bach Cantata cannot be heard entirely apart from its intended setting. Even the most agnostic listeners will feel the force of its religious passion."
